Kruger Park Mammals - Golden Moles
The Kruger National Park is a home to 2 Golden Mole Species, the Yellow Golden Mole and Juliana's Golden Mole. Very little is known about Golden Moles, they are very secretive, very rare and are extremely vulnerable to predation.
Kruger National Park Golden Mole Species & Distribution
There are 2 species of Golden Mole in the Kruger National park, and both species require different habitat in order for their survival, listed below are the species and their respected distribution ranges:
- Yellow Golden Mole (Calcochloris obtusirostris) : The more common of the 2 species, the Yellow Golden Mole is restricted sandveld habitat which can be found in the top right northern section of the Kruger Park close to Pafuri.
- Juliana's Golden Mole (Amblysomus Julianae) : Found in sandy soils in savannah but restricted to bottom left corner of the Kruger National Park, between Pretoriuskop and Malelane.
