Lower
Sabie is a busy, but tranquil,
rest camp in the Kruger
National park and is one of the largest camps in the Kruger. The
main attractant to the Lower Sabie Rest camp is it's variety and
abundance of natural
plant life and it's amazing view of the Sabie River from the deck
close to the restaurant and shop. Lower Sabie is situated in prime game
viewing habitat, probably the best game viewing area in the Kruger and
this being so, it is a very busy camp with day visitors and residents
constantly coming and going. To get accommodation at Lower Sabie, one
need to book many months in advance to avoid being disappointed.

Lower Sabie Rest Camp Accommodation
Being
quite a large camp, Lower Sabie has many types of accommodation to suit
various needs. The accommodation includes 33 camping and caravanning
sites with power points, braai facilities and communal ablutions and
kitchen; 30 huts, 24 luxury permanent canvas tents, 60 bungalows, 2
family bungalows and a guest house that sleeps 6.

of it's abundance of tree and plant life and it's close proximity to the
Sabie River you can expect to find all sorts of wildlife in and around
the camp. There are
reptiles in and around the camp that can be viewed at close range.
Birding
is good and species such as Southern Masked Weaver, Dark Capped Bulbul,
Speckled Mousebird, Giant Kingfisher, Pied Kingfisher, Woodland
Kingfisher, Golden Tailed Woodpecker, Plum Coloured Starling, Longbilled
Crombec, Blue Waxbill, Greater Blue Eared Starling, Paradise Flycatcher,
Cape Glossy Starling, Natal Spurfowl, Crested Barbet, Laughing Dove,
Arrowmarked babbler, Whitebrowed Robin Chat, Verreaux's Eagle Owl,
Yellowbilled Hornbill, Grey Hornbill, Redbilled Hornbill, Square Tailed
Nightjar, Fiery Necked Nightjar and many others can be seen.
Mammals in and around Lower Sabie Rest Camp available to be viewed (In the camp and from the deck) include Vervet Monkey, Chacma Baboon, Bushbuck, Spotted Hyaena, Hippo, Buffalo, Tree Squirrel, Banded Mongoose, Cape Clawless Otter, Large Spotted Genet and Thicktailed Bushbaby.
